The clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism include: joint pain, intolerance of cold, constipation, depression, inability to concentrate, dry skin, fatigue, sparse hair, hair loss, poor memory, menorrhagia, muscle ache, weakness and weight gain.
The most important part of clinical diagnosis and treatment is to determine the causes of hypothyroidism. The majority of hypothyroidism is caused by autoantibodies (TPO antibodies), i.e. Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The treatment mainly uses thyroxine supplements.
However, some hypothyroidism is due to infection and central etiology, so it is suggested that if there is any doubt about the clinical manifestations of hypothyroidism, it is better to discuss with doctors and receive further checks.
- Hypothyroidism is not treated with a fixed dose of thyroxine. Clinically, some patients need a specific dose of thyroxine adjustment policy. The most important one is to consider whether there is cardiovascular disease, pregnancy and other conditions.
- Older patients with cardiovascular disease need to adjust slowly from a lower dose to avoid increasing the burden on the heart.
- Pregnant women’s demand needs further adjustment because of the physiological changes in the pregnancy process, especially in the first trimester. It is advised to check at the interval of 4-6 weeks.
