Drawing great attention from Taiwan and Vietnam communities, 13-year-old girl with giant legs, Nguyen Thi Loan is coming home. Nguyen was companied by CMUH International Medical Service Center Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen and nurses to take a flight and returned to Vietnam. July 27th, the “Taiwan Medical Miracle Sharing Conference” held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Hung-Chi Chen shared about the high level of difficulty in this multi-division reconstruction surgery therapy conducted by CMUH. Chen said: “The patient will need to seek for treatment activity and CMUH will complete the surgery.”
After 13 months of treatment and care by CMUH medical tea, Nguyen Thi Loan has restored the innocence and vitality of a little girl. She even recited two Chinese poems at the conference: “Spring morning arrives unnoticed in my slumber, Till I hear birds twittering everywhere…,” which surprised everyone at the conference. Nguyen Thi Loan was happy to restore her health and she said that the first thing she wanted to do is to ride a bicycle and play with the other kids; she also wanted to become a doctor in the future in order to help others. She said: “May thanks for Hong Fu, Taiwan, the doctors, and everyone.”

Hung-Chi Chen described Nguyen Thi Loan as a brave girl who endured the pain in surgery and rehabilitation; however the sweet fruit in exchange made effort worthwhile. Hong Fu Industrial Group ‘s endorsement of the enormous medical expenses plus the successful 3-Phase and five multi-division joint complex reconstruction surgeries from conducted by CMUH allowed Nguyen Thi Loan to quickly recovery her health.
The lymphedema of Nguyen Thi Loan by mutation involves with extensively local organs of the body, from spleen, legs, calves, to perineum, rectum, and anus. The surgery process includes the removal of the 15-KG lymphedema from the giant legs by mutation in advance without the use of tourniquet for surgery while microscopy was adopted to separate all small vessels in order to avoid massive hemorrhage. Moreover, various factors related to the life safety of patients from the surgery process require much attention, which challenged the competence of CMUH’s robust team. It was an international case with considerably high complexity.
CMUH International Medical Service Center followed Taiwan External Trade Development Council-Vietnam Medical Marketing Delegate to share the cases of severely complex reconstruction surgery in Vietnam, which not only witnessed the process of Nguyen Thi Loan successfully completed the medical treatment dream but also encouraged patients who preciously lost confidence in medical treatment or have been abandoned for medical treatment by establishing brightness and hope for them. The spread of Nguyen Thi Loan effect propelled Vietnamese little girl Li with the same disease to seek for medical help in Taiwan from afar.
