Department Introduction
Cardiovascular Surgery
Cardiovascular disease is also known as disease of the circulatory system, which involves heart, artery, vein, and capillary. Basically such disease is the result of arteriosclerosis, and is divided into two categories: acute and chronic.
Treating cardiovascular diseases requires joint effort of doctors in different divisions: cardio, vascular, cardiology, neurology and interventional radiology.
Other fields involved in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease include nuclear medicine, nutrition, metabolism, pharmacology, sports rehabilitation, public health and epidemic.
As we have made great achievements in cardiovascular medicine for both adults and children in recent years, we decided to build a Cardiovascular Center to integrate expertise and resources owned by different subspecialties like cardio surgery, cardiology, and children's cardiovascular surgery, hoping to become an important cardiovascular center in Asia.
The China Medical University Hospital’s cardiovascular team (including children's cardiovascular surgery) currently provides medical treatment, open heart surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Surgery types include complex congenial heart defects, valve repair/replacement, peripheral revascularization, cockett operation for varicose vein, emergency cardiovascular surgery, and stent implantation for aortic aneurysm.
We value each of our patients and in the future will explore more surgery types such as heart transplant, robot arm-assisted heart surgery, minimally invasive heart surgery and endovascular treatment (PTA and intravascular stent).
