Introduction
It is a non-invasive procedure without exposing to radiation. During the examination, the examinee will lie on a table in supine, lateral or prone position. The physician will apply gel on inspected areas and roll the probe to see the structures of kidney shown on the screen. The whole process will take about 10-15 minutes.
Purpose
Renal ultrasound can show the structure of kidneys, upper ureters, and the surrounding tissues of bladder. It can help diagnose kidney stones, urinary obstruction, renal abscess, renal cysts, tumor, or other masses.
Preparation before the examination
It does not need to administrate any potential toxic materials. Besides, the examinee does not have any discomfort, danger, or food fasting before the examination. If urinary bladder is going to be examined, please hold urine for study.
Nursing care after examination
Please inform the staff if there is any discomfort after the renal ultrasound.
