Nevus removal 黑色素細胞痣

2025/3/17

Most of us have some moles we are either born , or moles that appear over time as we expose our skin to the sun.

Options

  • Surgical options: surgical excision which under local anesthesia  removes the entire piece of skin containing the mole, and will leave a liner scar. stiches take out after 7-14days after surgery.
  • Ablative laser: While laser mole removal is a non-invasive outpatient procedure. This method usually takes two or three treatments to eradicate the mole.

Before the procedure, consultation with a doctor is required to assess the mole and discuss the method of mole removal.

A numbing cream will be applied for 30 minutes before the start of the treatment.

Notes after treatment

Artificial skin:

  1. For the artificial skin applied to the wound, please change the artificial skin every day for the first 3 days.
  2. When the surface of the artificial skin is white and full, please tear it off, wash the wound with saline solution, and then cut a piece of artificial skin and attach it again.
  3. Since artificial skin is waterproof, you can wash your face normally.
  4. After about 7 days, when the artificial skin applied for 48 hours is still dry and free of secretions, it can be discontinued.
  5. New skin appears pink, during which time sun protection should be strengthened.
  6. Sun protection tips: after washing your face, rub moisturizing lotion first before applying sunscreen with SPF 25 or over.
  7. In addition to sunscreen, wear a sun hat or put up a parasol to protect new skin from sunburn when going out.

Ointment application:

  • A cut in the skin.
  • Try not to wet the wound when you are washing your face. Keep the wound dry and wash it with saline solution and apply ointment in the morning and evening.
  • Wear a sun hat or put up a parasol when going out, and avoid direct sunlight on the wound.
  • It crusts in 2-3 days.
  • The scab falls off in about 7 to 10 days.
  • New skin appears pink, during which time sun protection should be strengthened.
  • Sun protection tips: after washing your face, rub moisturizing lotion first before applying sunscreen with SPF 25 or over.

Surgery:

About 3-7 days after the operation, the wound should avoid contact with tap water and soap and alkali. In the morning and evening, the wound can be washed with saline solution, with antipyretic ointment to be applied after the cleaning. For facial pigmented nevi, stitches are removed in about 5-7 days, while about 10-14 days for the nevi on the limbs.

FAQ

  • Q1: Under what circumstances should a mole NOT be treated directly with a laser?
  • A: If a mole exhibits any of the following changes, a professional medical evaluation is required before any treatment. We advise against direct laser removal if you notice:
  • Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other.
  • Irregular Borders: The edges are ragged, notched, or blurred.
  • Uneven Color: The color is not uniform or has significantly darkened.
  • Increasing Diameter: The mole is growing in size.
  • Rapid Changes: Noticeable changes in appearance or spontaneous bleeding within a short period.
  • Large Size: The diameter is greater than 6 mm.
  • Q2: Why are multiple sessions often required for laser mole removal?
  • A: Most melanocytic nevi (moles) have pigment clusters located in the deeper dermal layers. To prevent the formation of depressed scars (pitted scars) caused by treating too deeply in a single session, a staged approach is necessary.
  • Interval: Sessions are typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
  • Efficacy: The number of treatments required depends on the specific depth of the mole's pigment.
  • Q3: If color reappears or darkens after removal, does it indicate malignancy?
  • A: Not necessarily. Residual pigment or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) following a laser procedure is usually a benign occurrence. This may be due to deep-seated pigment cells or the skin's natural inflammatory response. However, if you observe rapid growth, changes in shape, or bleeding, you must return to the clinic for a professional re-evaluation.
