Medication Guidance-Acarbose Tablets 用藥指導-(α- glucosidase inhibitor)

2026/4/15
  • Product: Dibose / Litacarbose
  • Chinese name: 克血糖膜衣錠 / 衛醣錠
  • Content: Acarbose 100mg
  • Target: Non-insulin-dependent (type II) diabetes mellitus

Usage and dosage

  • The initial dose is usually half of a 100mg tablet, three times a day. The maintenance dose can be increased up to 3 times a day, each time one to two tablet.
  • Must swallowed whole tablet with a small amount of liquid before meals or eaten with several mouthfuls of food during the meal.

Drug storage

  • Store it in a dry place at temperature below 30 ℃.
  • Remove the tablet from the aluminum foil before use. If the tablet is not stored in aluminum foil, it will discolor and deterioration under high temperature and high humidity.
  • Do not take expired medicines.
  • Store it in a place not easily accessible to children.

Possible adverse reactions

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
  • A few cases may have skin allergic reactions, such as skin redness, rash, or asymptomatic elevation of liver enzymes. These symptoms, upon assessment, can go away following discontinuation.

Special medication instructions

  • Take with diet, exercise or other medications to control blood sugar effectively.
  • This tablet can lower blood sugar levels and will not cause hypoglycemia. When acarbose is used in combination with other antidiabetic agents—such as sulfonylureas, metformin, or insulin—the dosages of these medications should be appropriately reduced to avoid hypoglycemia resulting from lowered blood glucose levels.
  • Since acarbose tablets inhibit the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into absorbable monosaccharides and slow carbohydrate digestion, glucose , honey, or mono‑sugar juice should be taken immediately to relieve hypoglycemia (e.g. sweating, trembling, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, and headache) if acute hypoglycemia occurs while using the above-mentioned medications.
  • If you forget to take tablet during meals, take one dose immediately after meals, or wait until the next meal. But only take one dose, not two at a time.
