Clinical Use of Proton Therapy 質子治療的臨床實證

Proton therapy is suitable for tumors in various parts of the body, especially ones in sensitive areas or near vital organs, such as brain, head and neck, left breast, lung, esophageal, liver, and prostate cancers. Children with cancers may benefit greatly from proton therapy as it reduces long-term aftereffect.

  1. Brain cancer：Promising with better long-term cognitive outcomes and quality of life
  2. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Two-year control rate being up to 94% with minimized severe side effects
  3. Oral cancer：Freeing 74% of patients from dry mouth and 50% of patients from using nasogastric tube
  4. Esophageal cancer：More than 50% of patients with no awful sequelae
  5. Breast cancer：Averting aftereffects with less than 20% of radiation doses deposited in heart and lung
  6. Lung cancer：Bringing down 40% average doses to heart, as well as the concomitant of therapy
  7. Hepatocellular carcinoma：Increasing overall survival with up to 90% of Three-year local control rate
  8. Prostate cancer：Elevating control rate and decreasing over 60% of serious side effects
  9. Other cancers：Raising control rate with 40% lower risk of recurring cancer
  10. Paediatric cancer：Away from growth and development disorders and the recurrence of secondary cancers
