Taiwan's Smart Rehabilitation Technology Takes Root in Malaysia: Demonstration Site Upgraded into a Joint Procurement Platform and Recognized by the Malaysian Medical Community

From May 22 to 23, the “Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling Workshop” and the “Robotic-Assisted Gait Training Workshop” were held at Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital. The events drew enthusiastic responses from rehabilitation physicians, physical therapists, and healthcare professionals in Malaysia. Participants jointly explored the clinical applications of robotic-assisted gait training in neurorehabilitation, post-operative rehabilitation, and elderly care.

In addition to sharing clinical treatment experience, Dr. Li-Wei Chou from CMUH’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Section Chief Chia-Cheng Lin presented a live demonstration of the lower-limb rehabilitation robot, case demonstrations, and hands-on operation training. These sessions allowed local medical teams to gain practical understanding of how Taiwan’s smart rehabilitation technology can be integrated into clinical treatment workflows. Dr. Chou stated that this collaboration was not merely a single medical exchange activity, but also an important milestone in exporting Taiwan’s smart healthcare technology to Malaysia.

At the end of last year, CMUH assisted HIWIN Technologies Corp. in establishing the “Lower-Limb Rehabilitation Robot Product Demo Site” at Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, a benchmark institution in the field of rehabilitation medicine in Malaysia. Through CMUH’s long-term efforts in promoting clinical cooperation, education and training, and practical application exchange, this year’s key objective is to further upgrade and expand the product demonstration site into a platform for product procurement and promotion. The excellent feedback from participants reflects that Taiwan’s smart rehabilitation equipment has gradually gained recognition from Malaysian experts and the local healthcare system.

This collaboration concretely demonstrates CMUH’s achievements in promoting the New Southbound Policy through the model of “driving industry development through medicine.” Through the hospital’s international medical platform and clinical professional influence, CMUH has successfully assisted Taiwanese medical technology companies in establishing overseas demonstration sites, clinical validation mechanisms, and subsequent market expansion models, allowing Taiwan’s smart healthcare industry to secure a strategic foothold in the Malaysian market.
