China Medical University Hospital Wins “Marketing Initiative of the Year” at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026

Five-Step International Marketing Framework Establishes a New Model for Asia-Pacific Medical Collaboration and Expands Taiwan’s New Southbound Healthcare Brand Presence

CMUH has once again gained international recognition at the prestigious Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, marking its third major accolade at the awards. Guided by the core strategy of “Turning Awards into Marketing Momentum,” CMUH continues to strengthen its international visibility and institutional brand influence.

In 2026, CMUH received the “Marketing Initiative of the Year” award for its project titled “A Replicable Five-Step Framework for Transforming a Non-Capital Hospital into an Asia-Pacific International Medical Hub.” The achievement represents a major milestone in the hospital’s international branding and strategic healthcare marketing efforts.

The award committee praised the initiative, stating:“Through its five-step framework, the hospital successfully strengthened institutional trust and expanded international medical collaboration. By transforming operational achievements into long-term and sustainable cross-border partnerships, the project demonstrates strong replicability and cross-sector application value.”

Five-Step Framework Drives Non-Capital Hospital into an Asia-Pacific International Healthcare Hub

Developed by the International Medical Center of CMUH, the “Replicable Five-Step Framework” is built upon five core pillars:

  • Deep Market Focus
  • National-Level Strategy
  • Trust-Based Service
  • In-Hospital Marketing Strategy
  • Global Recognition

The framework adopts a progressive strategy that begins with a single target market, followed by validation, replication, and scalable expansion. In parallel, CMUH established comprehensive performance indicators, stakeholder engagement mechanisms, and referral outcome systems to ensure long-term sustainability and replicability.

The model was first successfully implemented in Guam before being expanded to Malaysia and Brunei. Its achievements later attracted the attention of Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, further validating the framework’s international applicability and measurable impact.

More Than a Decade of Commitment in Guam Builds Institutional Trust and Quality Assurance

Since 2016, CMUH has cultivated the Guam market for over a decade through long-term engagement and localized relationship-building. The hospital has established strong partnerships with local insurance companies and physicians while embodying a patient-centered philosophy of compassionate care.

In February 2026, CMUH hosted the “A Decade of Trust: Guam Spring Reunion” event, bringing together former patients, physicians, and bipartisan senators from Guam in a warm and well-attended gathering. By the end of 2025, CMUH’s Guam-related medical service volume had increased elevenfold compared to ten years earlier, with more than 1,300 patient visits served cumulatively. Over 80% of these patients were government employees. The strong trust established over the years also made CMUH the only Taiwanese hospital visited by two sitting Guam governors during their terms in office, in both 2018 and 2025. In addition, CMUH played a facilitating role in the establishment of the sister-city relationship between Taichung and Guam in 2022.

Superintendent Der-Yang Cho emphasized that although the CMU healthcare system may not be geographically large on the global scale, its medical quality and technological capabilities have earned strong international recognition.

He noted that CMUH has developed strengths in smart healthcare, robotic surgery, proton therapy, highly complex surgical procedures, AI-assisted diagnostics, regenerative medicine research, and international medical talent training, gradually positioning itself as a leading healthcare innovation hub in Asia.

The International Center of CMUH has also achieved remarkable outcomes in Guam, Malaysia, and Brunei by using professionalism as a bridge and humanitarian values as its foundation. Through long-term commitment and collaboration, CMUH continues to bring Taiwan’s medical expertise to the world while showcasing Taiwan’s healthcare value internationally.

Successful Model Expanded to Malaysia and Recognized by the Japanese Government

Building upon the success of the Guam model, CMUH integrated its framework with Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare(MOHW) “New Southbound Medical Collaboration and Industrial Development Project " - YouTube” and expanded the strategy to Malaysia and Brunei beginning in 2022, achieving significant results.

The framework was also recognized and recommended by the Medical Excellence Taiwan (MET). In December 2025, CMUH was invited to share its implementation experience with Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Japan Tourism Agency, receiving highly positive feedback and strong interest. The response demonstrated the framework’s cross-national adaptability and its value as a regional model for international healthcare collaboration.

Third Major Win Demonstrates International Professional Recognition and Continued Momentum for Taiwan’s New Southbound Strategy

CMUH first participated in the Healthcare Asia Awards in 2023 and received the “Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year” award. In 2025, the hospital further earned “Hospital of the Year” and “CEO of the Year.” In 2026, it added “Marketing Initiative of the Year” to its growing list of achievements. Winning international recognition for the third time highlights CMUH’s globally recognized medical capabilities and brand value, placing the institution alongside leading healthcare organizations worldwide.

As an important member of Taiwan’s “New Southbound National Team,” CMUH has continuously participated in the MOHW’s second-phase New Southbound healthcare initiative from 2022 to 2025 for four consecutive years. This latest award also injects strong momentum into the upcoming third-phase program, further advancing Taiwan’s healthcare brand expansion across Malaysia, Brunei, and the broader Asia-Pacific region, while continuing to showcase Taiwan’s medical excellence on the global stage.
