What is a 5-in-1 DTaP-Hib-IPV vaccine

A 5-in-1 DTaP-Hib-IPV vaccine is an inactivated one that is injected to simultaneously protect against five infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis and haemophilus influenzae type b.

Timing of vaccination

  • Routine vaccination schedule for children: 4 doses should be injected.
  • The first dose is given at 2 months after birth, the second dose at 4 months after birth, the third at 6 months, and the fourth at 18 months.
  • Conditions not suitable for vaccination: fever, acute moderate to severe illness, severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine.

Possible adverse reactions after vaccination

  • The injection site may have redness, swelling or caking. A cold compress can be applied first, and a hot compress and massage can be given 48 hours later.
  • The injection site may be red, swollen and sore 1 to 3 days after inoculation, with occasional symptoms such as crying and restlessness, fatigue, loss of appetite or vomiting, which usually go away 2 to 3 days later.
  • Crying or running a high fever are less common. Severe adverse reactions such as severe allergies, lethargy or convulsions are extremely rare.
  • If redness and swelling at the inoculation site continues to expand, the fever lasts for more than 48 hours after inoculation, or severe allergic reactions and discomfort symptoms occur, please consult a doctor as soon as possible.
